SOL comes from the Latin word for sun
— a symbol of heat, vitality, and renewal.
During Michigan winter, when daylight is scarce, Sol represents a return to warmth, balance, and energy.
At Sol Sauna, everything we do is grounded in three core principles: Ritual, Contrast, and Connection—the foundations of lasting health and human resilience.
Founded by Zack Smith and Russell Mock, Sol Sauna is a space built around connection, contrast, and community. Both owners have spent over a decade immersed in the health and wellness world, helping people feel better, move better, and live more fully.
Zack is the founder and owner of Lively Up Kombucha, a company he’s led for the past 8 years with a focus on gut health, mindful living, and intentional experiences. His passion extends into breathwork, sound baths, and nervous system regulation—so don’t be surprised when those offerings begin to pop up on the Sol Sauna calendar.
Russ is the founder and owner of Muskegon CrossFit, now in its 13th year. With a deep background in strength & conditioning, Russ is driven by building resilient humans and even stronger communities. He believes wellness doesn’t stop at physical fitness—it thrives in shared experiences, meaningful conversations, and a good hang around the fire.
Together, Zack and Russ saw a growing need. In a world where many feel disconnected—from their bodies, from each other, and from the present moment—they wanted to create something different.
Sol Sauna is that space.
Through sauna and cold plunge contrast therapy, we aim to help people become more durable, both physically and mentally, while creating an environment where connection happens naturally. Whether you come for recovery, stress relief, clarity, or community, you’ll find a place that invites you to slow down, lean in, and feel human again.
We look forward to meeting you!
